- Wagner's Eudora Prefs v. 1.1.std & v. 1.1.alt
-
- These files were designed to ease the process of setting certain preferences for Eudora;
- they only work with Eudora version 1.5 or later.
-
- What's new from v. 1.0.1:
-
- There are two 1.1 versions now. They only differ in that the quote characters for reply
- and forward messages can be changed in one version but not in the other. See details
- below. Made some changes to the icons, too.
-
- Installation:
-
- Put only one of them in your Eudora folder. You should not use them both at the
- same time.
-
- Using Wagner's Eudora Prefs:
-
- Within Eudora, choose Settings... from the Special menu, then scroll down thru
- the left panel until you see the icons named Connection prefs, Disk space prefs,
- Wrapping prefs and Quote char prefs. Select any one of them. All settings are
- pretty much self-explanatory and most have Eudora’s balloon help.
-
- Hard-wired settings:
-
- Some settings have been etched directly onto each of both versions of Wagner's Eudora
- Prefs 1.1. They can be changed using ResEdit to alter the string resources. They are
- (without the “”, of course):
-
- Forward leading string: “<< start of forwarded material >>”,
- followed by 2 carriage-returns
-
- Forward trailing string: 2 carriage-returns, then
- “<< end of forwarded material >>”,
- then 2 carriage-returns
-
- Reply to sender attribution: “At ^3 ^1, ^0 wrote:”,
- followed by 2 carriage-returns
-
- Reply to multiple “At ^3 ^1, ^0 wrote:”,
- addresses attribution: followed by 2 carriage-returns
-
- The symbols ^3, ^1, and ^0 are place holders for the time, date and sender of the message
- you’re replying to.
-
- The quote characters for reply and forward messages can be editted when you use the
- standard version, v. 1.1.std, but not when you use the alternate version, v. 1.1.alt.
- They have been hard-wired in the latter and can be changed using ResEdit to alter the
- string resources. They are (without the “”, of course):
-
- Quote prefix: “ * “
-
-
- Forward quote prefix: “ ** ”
-
- The reason for having some settings hard-wired is that the trailing carriage-returns would
- always be ignored otherwise. I don’t know why that happens. The extra spaces in the quote
- strings also would be ignored, apparently because Eudora only saves the first non-blank
- character for such prefixes, unless they are hard-wired. However, since many people prefer
- the standard ">" character or another single-character string, I've put together a version that
- allows them their choice.
-
- Odd behavior:
-
- You may notice that each icon appears twice in the left panel. That is NOT a bug introduced
- by Wagner's Eudora Prefs. It happens with other files of this sort and it is a bug in
- Eudora 1.5.1 recognised by its developers. It seems to be a harmless oddity, so far as I can
- tell, and you may want to live with it, but there's a workaround: simply remove Eudora (the
- application itself) from the folder where its supporting files (settings, table of contents,
- mailboxes, etc) are located. This folder is usually called Eudora folder.
-
- Thanks to Bill Kok for pointing out this workaround to me.
-
- Disclaimer:

- Wagner's Eudora Prefs is freeware, but copyrighted. Although it’s not a major tweaking
- of your computing environment, it is at the mercy of Murphy's laws. Thus, if you decide to

- [ It seems, though, that both versions got corrupted since then... 8) ]

- Enjoy.
